If we are going to understand freedom, let’s first define it. Freedom is the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without restraint. It is the absence of subjection to foreign domination or despotic (excessive laws) government. It is the state of not being imprisoned or enslaved. It is openness in “peaceable” speech or behavior. It is the state of being physically unrestricted and able to move around easily… Freedom is defined by all of these examples and many more.
Natural law is the belief that certain laws of morality are inherent by human nature, reason, or religious belief and that they are ethically binding on humanity. There are, however, those people who have mental health issues or are narcissists, egomaniacs… who are not in the same realm of belief as to the “average” person. Also, parents, family, peers, culture, religion… all affect morality. So, there’s a baseline morality to which most fall under and then you have those with more morality (scrupulosity) and less morality.
John Locke was a philosopher during the “Enlightenment Era” and has had the most influence on our forefather’s philosophic ideas in the creation of our Republic. In the Declaration of Independence at the end, it states, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that ALL men are created equal, that they are endowed by their “Creator” with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” as written by T. Jefferson. Notice the insinuation of God by the word Creator? I just want to drive home the point, again, that our country was formed on faith, in faith, and with faith in God by our founding fathers. I would also mention that slavery was a moral conflict for many of our nation’s founding fathers like Benjamin Franklin, John Jay, Samuel Adams, John Adams and many more were and is the subject of future writing.
Locke’s comparison philosophy was that the natural laws or rights by nature are “life, liberty, and property”. And – he believed every individual had the right to protect these very basic and “God” given freedoms of natural life, freedom to do what you want with your life, and to safeguard the property earned by one’s labor. Every man has the right to protect and defend these natural laws. These very freedoms that have I just typed, have been under attack for decades but have become more blatant and prevalent since the unfortunate death of George Floyd. The government is not protecting us, state and local governments are not allowing our local police to defend us and we aren’t allowed to protect ourselves or our property. Or – we are perceived as prejudiced, bigots, and racists by Antifa & Black Lives Matter standards, especially, when it comes to “property.” We do have the right to protect property and our lives if necessary. Not only is it our right to protect ourselves but it is the government’s responsibility to protect its citizenry.
What’s really disturbing to me as a veteran and a patriot, is that the Democratic Party’s leadership failed to protect the lives of many Americans and American property, including monuments in many states over the last 40+ days. Our American Constitution or “law of the land” has 6 primary goals. They are, to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity. Now – keep in mind – the federal government was not formed to police the states, they were to remain independent in governance and policing unless they (States) seek help from the federal government in crisis. Every one of those goals has been violated since the death of George Floyd which should be very concerning to every American citizen.
These political hacks (Far Left Democrats/Socialist/Marxist) are no longer servants of the people, they are perpetuating hatred of America and have become self-serving. As Saul Alinsky said, “Never let a crisis go to waste”. And – this is exactly what every far, left-leaning Democrats are doing. They are hoping that the average citizen blames our President for this chaos when in all actuality, he (President) offered assistance to every state that wanted it to regain law and order. THEY REFUSED!
We are, in my opinion, on the precipice of losing our national identity and the freedoms we have enjoyed for over 244 years. We must begin to take a stand as those before us did over two centuries ago. We can no longer be complacent. Complacency kills! And- it’s killing us now. Complacency is the act of being comfortable while there are forces at work that wish to destroy the very comfortability we enjoy. Those of us who are true patriots and lovers of our country must take a stand against the evil that is at our doors. We who are of faith must let the light of God shine by being salt and light to the darkness that currently exists. We must stand by our values and not be ashamed to be men and women of faith. We must – once again – get very active in local, state, and national politics. We need to stand with our candidates whoever they may be. We must assist them with door campaigns, signage, or anything else it takes to defeat those who no longer value our values and opinions. We must be vocal, unafraid of consequence. We can deliver our platforms with dignity, honor, and respect. We need to vote and take people to the voting polls if they are unable. Leave the Dems at home though. We need to do this and so much more!
As I close, I want to share a quote from one of my favorite presidents, Ronald Reagan. “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction”. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.”
